ACRE HOME

Acres Homes is about ten miles northwest of downtown Houston, but when you drive through this community you might not think you’re in the city. The historic neighborhood, once considered to be the South’s largest unincorporated African American community, is a unique mix of rural and urban. Acres Homes was developed during World War I and got its name because land there was sold by the acre, instead of by the lot. The land was cheap and offered rural settlers plenty of room for their chickens, horses and gardens.

Acres Homes is one such neighborhood that has become increasingly popular in recent years. Located northwest of downtown Houston, Acres Homes offers a blend of history and diversity that make it an attractive place to live. Acres Homes is known for its large lots, wooded settings, and historic homes. It’s also home to some of Houston’s best parks, barbecue joints, and artists. The neighborhood has a mix of single-family homes, townhouses, and apartments, so there’s something for everyone.

One thing to keep in mind when moving to Acres Homes is that it’s a unique neighborhood, so the quality and character of different areas can vary widely. However, many people find that the benefits of living in Acres Homes, such as its affordability and community spirit, more than make up for the variations.

Here are three things to consider when moving to the Acre Homes neighborhood in Houston:

  1. Neighborhood Character: Acre Homes is a historically significant neighborhood in Houston, with a rich history dating back to the 1920s. It is known for its unique architecture, with many homes featuring Craftsman and Victorian styles. If you are looking for a neighborhood with character and a sense of history, Acre Homes may be the perfect choice.

  2. Safety and Security: Like many urban neighborhoods, safety and security can be a concern in Acre Homes. It is important to do your research and talk to locals about any crime or safety concerns in the area. Consider investing in security measures for your home and familiarizing yourself with the neighborhood watch program.

  3. Proximity to Amenities: Acre Homes is located in northwest Houston, and while it is not as centrally located as some other neighborhoods, it is still in close proximity to many amenities. Nearby shopping centers, parks, and entertainment options can make life more convenient and enjoyable. However, it is important to consider your commute to work and other daily destinations when choosing a neighborhood to live in.
